Το “The island – resignified” πραγματοποιείται για δεύτερη συνεχή χρονιά στην Λευκάδα. Πρόκειται για ένα εγχείρημα της Δήμητρας Κονδυλάτου, με τη συμμετοχή τ@: Εύας Γιαννακοπούλου, Μαρίας Μητσοπούλου (Maria F. Dolores), Cecilia Puglia & Ruby Bote (Quimera Rosa), Εριφύλης Βενέρη, Αδαμάντιου Καφετζή, Νίκης Μιλιώνη, Ελπίδας Ρίκου, Flora, Krystalla & Thomas Pearce, Νατάσας Μπιζά και Μαρίας Παπαποστόλου.

Με κεντρικό σημείο εκκίνησης κυριολεκτικά και μεταφορικά τη φιλοξενία καλλιτεχνών και/ή κοινωνικών επιστημόνων, στον ξενώνα Νήιον στη Λευκάδα, οι συμμετέχ@ς ξεκινούν μια έρευνα ή ένα εικαστικό έργο που σχετίζεται με το νησί (ή με κάποιο στοιχείο, πρόσωπο, τοποθεσία, χαρακτηριστικό κτλ του νησιού), και με το δικό τους ερευνητικό αντικείμενο ή μεθοδολογία. Οι στόχοι του πρότζεκτ είναι πολλαπλοί.
Απευθυνόμενο στον τοπικό πληθυσμό, το πρότζεκτ καλεί τ@ς κατοίκους -προσωριν@ς και μόνιμ@ς- του νησιού να δουν τη Λευκάδα μέσα από επιλεγμένα και εξειδικευμένα στοιχεία της, ιδωμένα από κάποι@ς άλλ@ς, και εκφρασμένα αλλιώς. Με την έμφαση να δίνεται αλλού και αλλιώς, το πρότζεκτ φιλοδοξεί να δημιουργήσει προβληματισμούς και διαθέσεις για τη διαχείρηση θεμάτων του νησιού και των εικόνων του (όπως βιώνονται και όπως παρουσιάζονται). Επιλέγονται τα πρότζεκτ εκείνα που έχουν μια συνέπεια ως προς το περιεχόμενο και την προτεινόμενη φόρμα, και μια συνειδητοποιημένη στάση απέναντι στις ιδιαιτερότητες που διέπουν τις μικρές κοινωνίες, αποσκοπώντας έτσι στο μεταξύ τους διάλογο και πιθανά σε έναν ευρύτερο διάλογο με τη διεθνή εικαστική κοινότητα. Τέλος, προσπαθεί να διερευνήσει τις συνδέσεις και να δημιουργήσει νέες σχέσεις μεταξύ σύγχρονης τέχνης και τουρισμού, δεδομένου ότι φιλοξενείται σε ένα τουριστικό κατάλυμα, σε ένα τόπο το κύριο εισόδημα του οποίου προέρχεται από τον τουρισμό.

Η τελική παρουσίαση των πρότζεκτ που υλοιποιήθηκαν στο πλαίσιο του “The island – resignified, 2nd edition” (2016), θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Τετάρτη 14 Σεπτεμβρίου, στο επίσης τουριστικό κατάλυμα Granny’s Traditional Home της οικογένειας Γιαννουλάτου, (την οποία ευχαριστούμε πολύ για την παραχώρηση του χώρου), άνωθεν του εστιατορίου “Old Navy” στην παραλία της Λευκάδας (οδ. Αγγ. Σικελιανού), στις 19.00.

Το πρωί της Πέμπτης 15 Σεπτεμβρίου θα πραγματοποιηθεί ξενάγηση στους μαθητές του 2ου Γυμνασίου Λευκάδας από τους παρευρισκόμενους συμμετέχοντες και την επιμελήτρια.

“The island – resignified” has been realised for the second year in a row in the island of Lefkada. It is a project conceived, co-ordinated and curated by Dimitra Kondylatou, with the participations of: Eva Giannakopoulou, Maria Mitsopoulou (Maria F. Dolores), Cecilia Puglia & Ruby Bote (Quimera Rosa), Erifyli Veneri, Adamantios Kafetzis, Niki Milioni, Elpida Rikou, Flora, Krystalla & Thomas Pearce, Natasa Biza and Maria Papapostolou.
Having as a starting point literally and metaphorically the hospitality, by means of a residency for contemporary artists and/or social scientists, hosted in Lefkada by neion guesthouse, the participants initiate their research or artwork related to the island (to an element, a location, a person, a persona, a character, a characteristic etc) and their own personal research/methodology. This project aims at multiple goals.
Addressed to the local population, this project invites those who stay on the island -permanently and temporarily- to see Lefkada through different and uncanny spectrums; to see familiar elements presented to them in the ways the others witness and experience them. By putting the emphasis somewhere else, in a different way, the project aspires to problematise the locals and to create new initiatives for dealing with the matters and the multiple images of the island (as they can be lived and as they can be presented/projected). The projects are chosen on the criteria of consistency between the content and the suggested form, and of awareness and conscious attitude of the participant, towards the sensitive issues that often arise within the contexts of small societies; aiming in this way to create a dialogue among the projects and to successively take part in the wider international artistic discourse. Finally, given that the accommodation is provided by a tourist guesthouse, located on an island whose main income stems from tourism, this project attempts to investigate the connections and create new relationships between the fields of contemporary art and tourism.
The final presentation of the projects realised within the framework of “The island – resignified, 2nd edition” (2016), will take place on Wednesday the 14th of September, in the tourist accommodation Granny’s Traditional Home (courtesy of family Giannoulatou), which is located above “Old Navy” restaurant, Agg. Sikelianou st., at 19.00 o’ clock.
On the morning of Thursday the 15th, there will be a guided tour to the presentation by some of the participant artists and the curator.
